The Plyboo Project
Smith & Fong Company did the impossible: bring together rivals Oregon State University and University of Oregon. The goal was to research, develop and produce two products in 10 weeks using Plyboo, an innovative soy-based bamboo plywood courtesy of Smith & Fong. Together, the Product Design Program and the Renewable Materials Program created Avery Woods Products.
The initial process involved brainstorming, material testing, ideation and prototyping. After these processes, the group voted from 9 prototypes: Wine rack, travel case, coaster+holders, lunchbox with living hinge, personal organizer, key holder, iPad stand, guitar stand, and a lampshade. Voting concluded and the team proceeded with the production of the personal organizer and the key holder.

THE PROCESS
MARKETING
Four tabling sessions took place on both campuses, distributing products directly to customers at the point of purchase.
The marketing team pursued Eugene and Corvallis boutiques for wholesale purchases.
Our marketing team put together a website that showcased Avery Woods' products and history. Currently, that website is under construction in preparation for next years team. The website included weekly newsletters, a blog, information on the team and history, and more. The marketing team also put together a Facebook page, Instagram, and Twitter. To reach customers, the marketing team advertised on campus and reconnected with previous customers.
Keep your eyes peeled for the next round of Avery Woods Products!
